Central Processor Unit (CPU)
The Processor (CPU) is the central item of the computer or server. This is where all the computational business is done. The processor only understands two conditions - on or off, or as it is termed in the langauge of logic: 'one' or 'zero'. Instructions are loaded into the processor in sequence along with any values of data to be worked on. Traditionally apart from the boolean logic functions, as far as arithmetic was concerned, cpu's could only add or subtract and any multiplicaion or division had to be done using these functions. Nowadays though they tend to have the more complex fuctions within the instruction set, although internally operation is very much the same.
